It originally comes with 3 models (Badger 1, 5 and 5XP) but some people say that InSinkErator already stopped producing the Badger 5 and they recommended using the Badger 5XP Garbage Disposal series instead. Badger 1 only has ¼ HP motor which is pretty small and only good for soft waste foods. On the other hand Badger 5 and 5XP has a ¾ HP induction motor that is good enough to handle soft to hard vegetable and fruit scrap like corn husk and possibly fish and chicken bones. It has a durable galvanized iron body that can last for many years of use, in fact some people who actually used them say that they been using it for 5 to 10 years without having any problem whatsoever.
Although a lot of people are complaining about leakage after using for a long time, maybe some rubber gasket issue or broken housing. They are very economical to use and consume only small amount of electricity compare to most home appliance. It also features strong induction motors which have a simple construction with few wearable parts that contribute to its maintenance free characteristics. Replacing the unit is very easy, it has a twist lock system, just twist counter clockwise to remove and clockwise to install.
The compact design also made it possible to install easily even in a small or restricted area. Other accessories you can buy include rubber mounting gasket, rust resistant stainless steel flange, jam-buster wrench and sink stopper. When replacing the unit it is advisable to also replace the rubber mounting gasket to prevent and eliminate leakage and also to minimize vibration and noise.
